Brush Collection Starts

Metro Nashville Public Works Department will begin 'Brush & Leaf' collections in 'AREA 5' on '8/12/2008'.

Brush crews begin in the downtown area and work out to the county line, and it usually takes 10-15 days to complete pickups in an area. To ensure that your brush is not missed, you should have limbs and all other yard waste out and ready for pick-up no later than Wednesday, 8/12/09. If you have any questions, please contact us at 615-880-1000.

Thank You,

Pool Playground Parking Area Restricted

As part of the decision to keep the pool open for another year, it was suggested and approved to chain the entrance to the pool parking area and restrict parking there. The reason for this decision was a safety issue because of the non-resident that parked in this area and resulted in vandalism, graffiti, destroyed property and some illegal activities at all hours of the day and night.

There were only a few times during the week when more than 2 or 3 cars were at the pool. We did leave enough room to pull into the driveway and up to the chain. You can also park next to the curb beside the pool.

The safety issue of trying to stop the loitering and parking in this area was more of an immediate concern that having the parking area open. Our hope is to make a statement to these individuals who are causing the problems at the Pool and Playground and say NO to this continuing in our neighborhood and that this area is not available for you!

Hopefully this will not have to be a permanent deterrent, but we are concerned for the safety of the Oakwood residents and are trying every avenue to keep this area safe. We are also installing a camera monitoring system for the Pool and Playground to increase the safety and security of this area.

Thank you,
The Oakwood Board of Directors

The Oakwood Pool is Open

After weeks of delays and working on meeting the new pool regulations, we were finally able to get the new drains installed and have our Metro inspection on Friday.

We also need to give a hugh thanks to Doug Waterman and the members of the Pool Committee for all of the work they have done in the past several weeks to help in getting this area cleaned up!

Oakwood Pool Opening Delayed

We have been working on several projects since the first of this year. We have looked at so many options on a variety of things in our community. Of course, the pool has garnered so much of the attention because of looking at the option of closing it and shifting those dollars to other areas.

Because of several surveys and pleas from a few of the longtime resident homeowners, we have worked out a way to try and keep the pool open for another season. We had initially set a target date of May 22, 2009 to try to open the pool. We have to push that date farther out. Effective this year, some new federal regulations went into effect regarding the drains in all swimming pools. The Metro Departments that have impact on these regulations at a local level are still developing policies and trying to get all of the inspections completed. In some instances, they have to duplicate inspections when a pool was initially inspected without having the change in drains and then re-inspected after the work to change to the new drains. Along with all the rain, which has caused delays in work and inspections many of the pools are behind schedule on getting the work and the inspections completed.

We are in a hold mode as far as being able to get the company to come and install the new drains and get the inspection completed because of this backlog and the weather. We will continue to do everything within our control to prepare the pool for opening, but will be at the mercy of the weather, the pool company and Metro to finalize all of the work and inspections before we can open.

We will open at the earliest possible date and will evaluate staying open a little later in the season if at all possible.

Pool Closing Information

There have been a few questions regarding the closing of the pool. We had a homeowner ask the Board for some time to generate a petition in support of keeping the pool open. Trying to be fair and open-minded, we agreed to grant this homeowner the month of March to poll the community and generate signatures supporting the pool remaining open. Because of some bad weather weekends, this homeowner asked to have an extra week and weekend to continue his efforts. That deadline is now early next week.

Once we get the results from this homeowner, the Board will meet and take a look at:
  • Finances,
  • Unpaid fees,
  • Collection efforts, and
  • Homeowner support.
Once that has occurred, a decision will be published to all of the homeowners.

Thank you for your interest.

POOL CLOSING PROPOSAL

February 1, 2009

Fellow Oakwood Homeowners,

We have enclosed a survey to gather information about the pool and playground area. We have had many complaints about security at the pool, families feeling uncomfortable and about non-residents showing up at the pool, illegal activity in the parking lot, and on and on.

The Oakwood Board has been approached to consider closing the pool in order to reduce this activity and offer a place to those people who do not live in Oakwood, or are drive bys looking for an inconspicuous place to park and meet for all types of activity.

We have heard from a few of you about HOA fees increasing and why. Part of the reasons for the fees increasing is just the time we are in with increased utilities, maintenance and insurance cost affecting the HOA just as it does your household. The largest part of those increases is directly related to pool expense.

As of January 2009 our outstanding receivables exceeded sixteen thousand dollars ($16,000) in unpaid association dues. I can assure you that we have done and are continuing to do every step available to us to collect our dues. Our decision comes down to simple terms of income vs. expenses.

Therefore, if we do not receive information back from you, we will consider that you will be in favor of the proposal to close the pool. The deadline for all replies will be March 1, 2009.

Sincerely,

The Oakwood Homeowners Board of Directors

[ ] I am in favor of closing the Oakwood pool.

These are the reasons I support keeping the pool open.

POOL CLOSED for VANDALISM - VIOLATIONS

The Oakwood pool will be closed temporarily, because of vandalism. Metro inspector, David Guess has notified us that because of repeated vandalism and missing ladder bumpers on the end of the ladders, we are being fined for each day of operation when these ladder bumpers are missing.

Vandals are removing the bumpers from the ends of the ladders, leaving the tubing of the ladders exposed which could harm individuals who apply weight to the ladder while body parts (hands, feet, etc.) are between the end of the ladders and the wall.
